A Perfect Week in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Category: Activities & Experiences | 02.13.2026

There are destinations that rise quickly into fashion, and then there are those that quietly endure. Dubrovnik belongs to the latter.

Perched along the southern edge of Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, Dubrovnik feels suspended between eras. Medieval walls meet the Adriatic’s shifting blues. Limestone streets glow at sunset. Fishing boats drift past centuries-old fortifications. While comparisons are often made to the Riviera or Tuscany, Croatia is not a substitute for anywhere else; it is a place rediscovering and refining its own identity.

Yes, you will see yachts anchored offshore and elegant restaurants lining the harbour. But beyond the glamour lies something far more compelling: authenticity. Dalmatia is still a region of family-run vineyards, stone villages, island traditions, and recipes passed down for generations. A week here is less about spectacle and more about immersion.

Here is what a perfect week in Dubrovnik could look like.

Day 1 – Arrival in Dalmatia

After your journey, settle into your villa with a light arrival spread curated by your Local Host. Expect regional cheeses, olives, fresh bread, and Croatian wine.

Unpack slowly. Step onto the terrace. Listen to the sea. Dubrovnik reveals itself best when you begin at its pace.

Day 2 – Exploring Dubrovnik

Today is devoted to the Old Town — a UNESCO World Heritage site enclosed within remarkably preserved medieval walls.

Walk the ramparts for panoramic views of terracotta rooftops and island-dotted waters. Wander the polished limestone streets of Stradun. Visit the Rector’s Palace, Franciscan Monastery, and centuries-old churches that tell the story of the Dubrovnik Republic.

For a sweeping perspective, take the cable car to Mount Srđ and watch the city unfold beneath you.

In the evening, dine at one of Dubrovnik’s celebrated restaurants such as Restaurant 360°, Nautika, Posat, or Zuzori, where refined Dalmatian cuisine meets Adriatic views.

Day 3 – Private Boat Charter

The Dalmatian Coast is best experienced from the water.

Charter a private motorboat and cruise toward the Elaphiti Islands, once home to captains of the Dubrovnik Republic. Swim in hidden coves, anchor in quiet bays, and stop at a seaside konoba for a leisurely seafood lunch.

The rhythm of the sea, the clarity of the water, and the vastness of the coastline redefine what “coastal living” truly means.

Day 4 – Dalmatian Cooking Experience

Today, discover Croatia through its flavours.

Join a local cook in her family home and prepare traditional Dalmatian dishes, including bread baked under the iron bell known as peka. Walk through the garden to gather herbs and fresh ingredients, then sit down to enjoy your meal overlooking the Konavle Valley.

After an afternoon of relaxation at your villa, consider dinner at Proto for refined seafood or Bota Šare for oysters and contemporary coastal fare.

Day 5 – Sea Kayaking & Lokrum Island

For a more active perspective, explore Dubrovnik’s coastline by sea kayak.

Paddle beneath the city walls and toward Lokrum Island, often called the “emerald of Dubrovnik.” Discover monastery ruins, botanical gardens, and secluded swimming spots accessible only from the water.

The experience offers a rare intimacy with the landscape, with cliffs rising above, the sea stretching endlessly outward.

Day 6 – Wine Touring in Pelješac

Drive north to the Pelješac Peninsula, Croatia’s most respected red wine region.

Visit family-run estates producing Plavac Mali and other indigenous varietals. Tour vineyards set dramatically above the Adriatic and enjoy guided tastings in historic cellars. Lunch is often served at a private winery, pairing local dishes with estate wines.

Return to Dubrovnik for an evening of relaxed dining, perhaps revisiting a favourite restaurant to continue exploring Croatia’s exceptional wine list.

Day 7 – Ston & Oyster Harvest

Today, venture to the fortified towns of Ston and Mali Ston, home to one of Europe’s longest defensive wall systems and historic salt pans dating back centuries.

Join a local fisherman for an oyster harvest in the calm inlets of the Pelješac Peninsula. Learn about oyster cultivation directly from an expert and enjoy a freshly prepared seafood lunch overlooking the water.

For your final evening, savour traditional Dalmatian cuisine at Kopun or another restaurant recommended by your HV Experience Manager.

Day 8 – Departure

It is time to say doviđenja to your villa and the Adriatic coast.

Dubrovnik has a way of lingering — in the light, in the flavours, in the sound of waves against ancient stone.

And something tells us you will return.
