Pre-Trip Tips & Essentials

Travel Documents: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond travel dates. U.S. and Canadian passport holders can enjoy visa-free travel to Portugal for up to 90 days. However, starting mid-2025, travellers must obtain approval from ETIAS — the European Travel Information and Authorization System. ETIAS is an automated system designed to pre-screen visitors before they enter the Schengen Area. The application process is simple and online, typically incurs a small fee (around 7 euros), and, once approved, the ETIAS authorization is valid for multiple entries for up to three years or until your passport expires. Complete this process as part of your pre-trip planning for a smooth entry into Portugal and the broader Schengen region.

Currency: Portugal uses the Euro (€). Although most establishments accept credit cards, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller shops, local markets, and tipping service providers.

Flights: Fly into Lisbon Airport (LIS)—the closest international gateway — just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Comporta by car.

Transportation: For the ultimate flexibility, renting a car is highly recommended to explore Comporta and its surroundings at your own pace. If you’d rather not drive, HV can arrange private chauffeurs to ensure smooth and hassle-free transportation throughout your stay.

Packing Essentials: Prepare for Comporta’s relaxed coastal vibe by packing lightweight clothing, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and comfortable walking shoes. Remember your swimwear for beach days and a few warm layers for cooler evenings. Many of our villas have beach towels and adapters so that you can travel lighter.

Adapters and Voltage: Portugal uses Type C and F plugs with 230V.

Travel Insurance: For added peace of mind, consider travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, cancellations, and lost luggage. HV can recommend trusted insurance providers or even help arrange coverage.
