Some of the island’s most famous landmarks, they used to be found all over but now only 7 remain. The most famous ones are the Kato Myloi (lower windmills) that stand on a hill, facing the sea, in Chora. The view from up there is incredible.
This neighbourhood of colourful houses built on the edge of the sea is as picture-perfect as they come. Named for its resemblance to the Italian city, it is home to elegant bars and restaurants, and a great place to watch the sun go down.
It’s so easy to lose yourself in the town’s many winding alleys full of white houses, blue doors and window boxes full of lush pink bougainvilleas. The area of Matogiania has many chic shops and trendy bars.
Head out to the country and pay a visit to Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm for a lovely afternoon sampling the farm’s own organic wine, coupled with tasty traditional treats, including cheeses, hams and more.
This island is known for its nightlife. Start the evening by watching the sun go down in Little Venice before making your way to the legendary Scandinavian bar, the gay-friendly Jackie O, or one of the famous beach bars like Nammos.
As you wander around town, your family might just encounter this friendly and sociable fabled island resident. A wounded bird adopted by a local in the 1950s, he was – and still is, through his successors – the beloved mascot of Mykonos.
