Eat Local

Istrian food is amazing – it’s local, fresh and changes with the season. A dream destination for any foodie, enjoy truffles, fresh fish, pork tenderloin, bean soup in the fall and winter, asparagus, wild mushrooms and more.

Olive Oil Tasting

Istria is the largest producer of olive oil in all Croatia, with the best being extra virgin. Test it out for yourself by visiting one of the many producers – Chiavalon in Vodnjan, Cuj in Farnažine near Umag, or Ipša near Motovun are all options.

City of Rovinj

Located on the hilly peninsula, Rovinj’s pastel-coloured houses rise right out of the sea. The St. Euphemia church stands at the highest point. Head to the old town, where streets are are full of lively bars, restaurants and art galleries.

Pula Film Festival

The Pula Film Festival is the oldest festival of its kind in Croatia. Held in July, Croatian and international films are shown at various locations in Pula, including in the stunning amphitheatre in the town.

Euphrasian Basilica

Top billing in Poreč goes to this 6th-century basilica, a World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s finest intact examples of Byzantine art. The glittering 6th-century mosaics in the apse of the church are the highlights.

Pazin’s Castle

Pazin’s castle is the largest and best-preserved medieval structure in all of Istria. First mentioned in AD 983, the castle has had different architectural styles added to it over the centuries.

For Kids

Pula Aquarium

This extraordinary aquarium occupies an entire 19th-century military fort. The displays are well laid out and themed, with an emphasis on environmental issues. Check out the sea-turtle rescue centre.

Observatory in Višnjan

Located just outside of the small town of Višnjan, here you can take a tour, learn about the work done here and gaze at the moon. Visit on Saturdays from May to Sept. from 8pm onwards. They also organize interesting workshops for kids of all ages.

AquaPark Istralandia

Istralandia water park has a total of 20 slides including an 88 ft. high free-fall slide, three large swimming pools, sand volleyball and badminton courses, food court, and a souvenir shop.

Roman Amphitheatre

Known locally as the Arena, this is Pula’s most famous and imposing sight. A 1st-century oval amphitheatre designed to host gladiatorial contests and seating up to 20,000 spectators, it overlooks the harbour northeast of the old town.
