Castello Della Staffa

Step into the pages of history in the welcoming ambience of this splendid medieval castle, with its 1300-acre estate in the verdant Tiber valley on the borders of Umbria and Tuscany, close to Assisi. Surrounded by olive groves, woodlands, lakes, streams and farmlands, the original castle buildings and church frame a large courtyard that is the perfect setting for a grand Tuscany celebration. A stunning octagonal tower made by the emperor Federico II and an 11th century watchtower with panoramic views over the whole valley complete the majestic setting.

Fully renovated in recent years to provide all the modern comforts, the castle can accommodate up to 15 guests in the main buildings. Amid its rugged stone walls and ancient beams, the Castello’s sumptuous décor evokes the splendors of the past with rich colors, fine fabrics and luxurious drapes, each bedroom suite having its own decorative theme. The Tower apartments too have a definite medieval air, but within this historic atmosphere all of today’s comforts are provided. The professionally equipped kitchen can cater to any number, and meals can be taken in the elegant jasmine-covered dining pavilion that overlooks the gardens and the fabulous valley below.

Star attraction is the splendid infinity saltwater pool with wraparound terrace and pool house (plus shower and barbecue), perfectly sited to catch every ray of sunshine and surrounded by beautifully kept gardens with abundant flowers, fragrant shrubs, fruit trees, oak and olive trees. There is also an herb garden with aromatic plants and a small kitchen garden with fresh vegetables. Around the Tower is a panoramic gravelled terrace with sitting area plus a children’s play area with swings, slide, etc, and a fully-equipped barbecue area.
