A stylish country villa set among the sunflowers and rolling hills of Tuscany

From its superb position on the crest of the Tuscan hills, this classic mid-18th century villa has commanding 360° views ranging over the Val di Chiana from Montepulciano to Cortona. Its surrounding 3 hectares of olive groves and vineyards assure you of privacy, while filling the air with those evocative fragrances that tell you that you are in another world.

Lovingly restored in recent years to create a colorful and comfortable home, Casa Passerini welcomes you with spacious open plan living areas linked by mellowed brick archways and opening onto the gardens and the superb views. Quality antique pieces, leather sofas and precious Oriental rugs set the tone, spiced with a piquant seasoning of modern art works. The streamlined designer kitchen provides everything the accomplished cook could wish for, and you can enjoy your culinary creations seated around the massive dining table or on the shaded terrace just outside.

As for the bedrooms, one is conveniently located on the first floor, and there is another on the top floor, while those on the second floor are grouped around another inviting sitting room. They each have their own stylish bathroom, done as only the Italians know how, and each has its own perspective on the fabulous views of the surrounding countryside.

Though secluded at the heart of its own estate, Casa Passerini is only 5 minutes by car from the small villages of Cignano and Centoia where you can have a coffee, 7 minutes to Montecchio where you can purchase essentials, and 15 minutes from the modern town of Camucia for more serious shopping. Just up the road is Cortona, celebrated by Frances Mayes in Under the Tuscan Sun and Bella Tuscany. It's a delightful town full of art, museums, winding cobblestone streets and an Etruscan archeological heritage. Within an hour's drive, you can visit Arezzo, Siena and the famous wine villages around Montepulciano and Montalcino, or venture into Umbria to Perugia and Assisi. Florence is just over an hour away. And there is always the peace and quiet of the property to come home to, with its choice of pools and superb views – what better setting could you find for an unforgettable vacation.

We did not expect the wonderful detail and attention we got both from the Toronto office and once we arrived in Tuscany.
